Germans LOVE fireworks at the end of the year, on the night of Silvester.
But more and more cities are banning them, mainly for environmental reasons. And according to a representable  survey the majority of the country think that is a good idea.To make noise on New Year's Eve has a long tradition.Already in the early Middle Ages people used rattles, pots and other objects to drive away evil spirits. From the 10th century, church bells, timpani and trumpets were added, later also the firing of rifles and cannons.Mass production of fireworks began at the beginning of the 20th century.According to the Federal Environment Agency, 4,000 tons of fine dust are released every year by the rocket, firecracker and other fireworks. In Germany alone, more than 130 million euros are spent on fireworks every year on New Year's Eve.
