Beating contestents from 24 other finalist countries, Lena, the 19 year old teenager from Germany won this years European Song Contest in Oslo. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From Reuters:
In the self-proclaimed European song championships, flag-draped fans and outrageous outfits are par for the course and contestants mix glitz and kitsch, ballads, rock 'n' roll and disco to lure the highest number of votes. But unlike past years when polished super-productions took center stage, Lena's fresh and untrained style  appealed most.
Lena and her team received a great welcome including the red carpet treatment in her home town Hanover. She arrived in a special Lufthansa plane and was greeted by more then 40 000 fans.  At the airport she is still overwhelmed and calls out:  "Ihr seid ja verrueckt! Geht doch rein, es regnet!" (You are all crazy. Go inside! It's raining!") For  a short video from Hanover (in German language) go to: Willkommen in Lena Land.
The winning country Germany will host next years European Song Contest and the first city mayors have already started to advertise their towns. Hamburg, Berlin and of course Hanover, Lena's home town are amongst them.
