The Bavarian State Library in Munich is one of Europe's largest libraries with an astonishing wealth of manuscripts, periodicals, an art collection, newspapers and books. They are open daily and the general reading room is accessible from Monday - Sunday until midnight. Visitors to Munich are able to view the current exhibition of Italian Book illustration and painting (until mid August).
For online users the library has recently published a Sprachatlas (map of languages and dialects). Here you can find German Weekday lingua in all sorts of Bavarian dialects, even for German non locals hardly recognizable. If you want to impress some locals in Frankonia, Bavaria or other parts in Germany with your in depth knowledge of "real" southern German check out this link: Sprachatlas. It's great fun.
