Buddenbrooks: The Decline Of A Family (in German: Die Buddenbrocks: Verfall einer Familie) is a major early work by Thomas Mann.
In this family saga Mann portrays the decline and downfall of a wealthy mercantile family in Northern Germany. Several film adaptations were produced since the book was published in 1901, the latest in 2008 starring Armin Mueller- Stahl.
SBS 2 will air the Buddenbrooks on Sunday, 28 August at 10 pm.
