Language Excellence student Loma, who has been learning German with us for over 11 years, shared her thoughts on online German language learning:
Corona Virus – Confinement – a Foreign Language In these times when we are confined to our homes to protect us from an invisible but possibly deadly disease, it is important that we continue to have fulfilling lives and one of the best hobbies we can pursue in the home is language learning.   But how do we do this?  Thankfully modern technology has the answer.Even if you are used to the class situation, a one-on-one lesson via Skype can be just as rewarding.  Perhaps you could also invite a couple of your class mates to join in.Language learning stimulates the mind and there is a general overall good feel at the end of a lesson.  Whilst it is nice to share this feeling with others in a class, if you try Skype you’ll walk away from your computer at the end of a lesson and experience a real high.We have to prepare for each lesson and this entails homework, reading in the language, translating sentences from the newspaper and all of this can give us a feeling of fulfillment.  This we can do on a daily basis and it is so easy to lose oneself in the work and while away at least a couple of hours. If you learn more than one language your approach to each is the same and you constantly find yourself running out of time, trying to juggle both but isn’t this good? When you decide to sit and do your homework, you will very soon find yourself totally immersed in the language and nothing else matters. To do nothing is depressing and this depression could increase in time.  Don’t discontinue your language learning; it is truly a magical pastime and one which will see us through these otherwise frightening months ahead.
