A new 5 year temporary visa has been announced for parents of Australian citizens with immigration background.Australians will be able to use the new visa to sponsor their parents to move here for up to five years, rather than join the waiting list for a permanent visa that carries no requirement for a ­contribution.The plan comes 10 days after an estimate from the Productivity Commission that each year’s intake of the parents of migrants would cost taxpayers up to $3.2 billion because of the health and aged-care services they would need over time. The Australian, 24 September 2016The current long term visa regulations were a long and costly process with waiting times up to 30 years and a $7000 fee for the "Non-Contributor Visa" or alternatively the "Contributor Visa" with a waiting time of about 2 years and a $ 47000 fee.The government has  not decided about the costs of the new proposed regulations.
